Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What is BuyJury?
BuyJury helps you avoid buying things you'll regret. Instead of buying on the spot, you put the item on hold, ask your friends to vote Buy or Skip, and decide when the hold ends. Everything you skip adds to your "kept" total.
How do I put something on hold?
Three ways: share it from Safari or a shopping app (tap Share, then BuyJury); paste a link on the new hold screen; or choose In store and take or pick a photo for things you see in a shop. BuyJury fills in the name, price and currency where it can, and you can edit any of them.
Why didn't the item details fill in?
Some stores block automatic lookups. When that happens, type the name and price yourself. Your hold works the same either way.
How long does a hold last?
48 hours on the free plan. Jury Plus lets you choose 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours or 7 days.
Who are Coco and Kobe?
Your companion: a cat or a dog you pick at the start. They keep you company, tell you when friends vote or a hold is up (tap them to hear the news), and meow or woof when you tap them. Change or rename them, and turn their sounds and vibration on or off, in Settings.

Voting

How do my friends vote? Do they need the app?
No. Tap Ask friends on a hold and share the link anywhere: a group chat, a text or a DM. Friends open the link, tap Skip or Buy, and add their first name. Friends who have BuyJury can also vote inside the app, from Circle.
Can friends vote anonymously?
Yes. They tick Vote anonymously. You'll see their vote and message as "Anonymous"; their name is never saved.
Who can see my poll?
Anyone you share the link with, and anyone they pass it to. A poll shows your first name, the item name, price, image, where you saw it (for in-store items) and time left. It never shows your other holds or your totals. Polls stop accepting votes when the hold ends.
Can I change my vote?
No. Each phone or browser gets one vote per poll, so think before you tap.
Someone left a rude comment. What do I do?
Open the hold in the app, press and hold the comment, and choose Report comment. You can also remove or block anyone in your circle from the Circle tab.

Friends

How do I find friends?
In Circle, tap Find a friend and type their @username or the email they sign in with, or send them an invite code. If they use Apple's Hide My Email, ask for their @username instead.
Can I stop people finding me by email?
Yes. Turn off Settings → Findable by email.

Paused apps

How does pausing apps work?
BuyJury uses Apple's Screen Time framework. When you open a shopping app you've chosen, a pause screen appears first. Tap Close to leave, or Continue to go ahead; after you continue, the app stays open for 15 minutes before the pause returns.
Can BuyJury see which apps I chose?
No. Apple keeps your selections private on your device. We can't see them.
The pause isn't showing up.
Try these in order: open BuyJury → Settings → Paused apps and check it's on and your apps are selected; in iPhone Settings → Screen Time, check that BuyJury still has access; restart your iPhone. Still not working? Email support@buyjury.com with your iOS version.
How do I turn the pause off?
BuyJury → Settings → Paused apps → turn it off. All pauses stop immediately.

Check-ins and streaks

What counts as a no-spend day?
A day with no non-essential spending. Rent, bills, groceries and transport don't count.
What if I miss a day?
You get one rest day each week, used automatically so a single slip doesn't break your streak. If a streak does end, you'll still see your total no-spend days for the year.
Can my friends see how much I spend?
No. Friends see only your streak. Your holds, prices and kept total are private to you.
How is my kept total calculated?
It adds up the prices of items you chose to skip, in your chosen currency. It's an estimate based on the prices recorded on each hold.

Plans and billing

Is BuyJury free?
Yes. The free plan includes three new holds a month, 48-hour holds, a pause on one app, unlimited polls and votes, the nightly check-in and streak, and two Find it cheaper checks a month. Jury Plus ($3.99/month or $29.99/year) adds unlimited holds, every hold length, a pause on every app, full history and 30 Find it cheaper checks a month.
What is Find it cheaper?
On a hold, tap Find it cheaper and BuyJury looks for the same item for less at other stores, showing up to three new listings and how much you'd save. It only runs when you tap it, and you can bookmark listings for later.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open BuyJury → Settings → Subscription → Cancel subscription, or iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → BuyJury → Cancel Subscription. Plus stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one in BuyJury → Settings → Subscription → Request a refund, or at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I paid but Plus isn't unlocked.
Go to Settings → Subscription → Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe.

Privacy and account

Does BuyJury connect to my bank?
No. BuyJury never asks for bank or card access, and it doesn’t show ads. Read our full Privacy Policy.
Which currencies are supported?
USD, CAD, EUR, GBP, AUD, NZD, INR, JPY, CHF, SGD, AED and MXN. Pick yours in Settings. Each hold keeps its own currency; amounts are never converted.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete account. This removes your account, polls, votes on your polls and circle from our servers, and the holds and check-ins on your phone. If you subscribe, cancel in Settings → Subscription as well.
How do I report a bug?
Settings → Report a bug. Tell us what happened; we include your app version and device model so we can reproduce it.
What devices are supported?
iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
